Post Fracture Rehab

image
At Motus Clinic we also provide rehabilitation to osteoarthritis clients who are recovering from micro-fracture surgery (a procedure which involves drilling holes in the bone to release bone marrow cells in order to stimulate the growth of new cartilage)

Fractured (broken) bones will generally heal within six weeks of injury. But that is only half of the problem. Unfortunately, when you have enough stress placed through your body to fracture a bone there’s usually a lot of other soft tissues and structures that have been damaged in the process as well.

Add to that the common use of immobilization in a plaster of paris, you’ll have joint stiffness and considerable muscle weakness. This may even affect joints that don’t seem related to break. For example, a fractured clavicle bone may result, elbow joint because you have been asked to keep your arm in a shoulder sling for 3-4 weeks.

Post-Fracture rehab
Acute Fractures: Resulting from a traumatic force strong enough to break the bone
Stress Fractures: They tend to be overuse injuries caused by repeated stress on the bone over time, causing a small/hairline break.
Attending physiotherapy sessions varies depending on your type and location of the fracture. Typically, physiotherapist at Motus Clinic will attempt to prevent post-fracture stiffness and weakness in the adjacent joints and muscles during the first six weeks while your fracture is healing. Our specialist can put you through a 6-8 week programme that can improve your strength conditioning as part of your rehabilitation. Whatever goal you have, we can facilitate them at Motus Clinics, there are no hard-and-fast time limits on our therapy programmes, clients can decide when to leave. After 6 weeks or later if X-rays show proper healing of the fracture site, our physiotherapist work with you on regaining full joint range of motion and muscle strength that operate near or over the fracture site.
